Joseph Burton Wines is an independent, family-owned wine wholesale and online retail business. Offering exceptional wine at excellent prices, director Joseph Burton was the first certified Sommelier in Tasmania and draws on more than 20 years experience as a Sommelier, wine distributor and business owner.

Joseph also enjoys working with local hospitality businesses to help educate and tailor vinous solutions, as well as hosting online and in-home wine tasting experiences, and delivering exceptional wine packages and service experiences for private and corporate events in Tasmania.
Meet
Joseph Burton
Joseph Burton
I’m Joseph Burton, or JB. I grew up in Penguin, Tasmania, where wine wasn’t part of my life. After moving to Melbourne in 2000, I became a waiter and developed a passion for wine, leading to a job at The Melbourne Supper Club Bar.

In 2003, I worked at Number 8 Restaurant, where I met my mentor, Daniel Schwarze. By 2004, I was the sommelier at Franklin Manor, winning several wine list awards. After a two-year break due to a back injury, I worked at Me Wah and then at The Source Restaurant at MONA, where I became Tasmania's first Certified Sommelier.

In 2014, I founded Joseph Burton Wines, and I’m now expanding into a wine bar and event glassware hire business. I'm also funding a scholarship for aspiring Tasmanian sommeliers to support future talent in the industry.

Hey! I'm Nathan, the border collie here at Joseph Burton Wines. I thrive on greeting visitors warmly and ensuring everyone feels at home. Whether I'm trotting through the vineyards or lounging by the cellar I am part of the family here.
